Tired of starting over...

No one ever starts their weight loss journey with the intention of quitting. Your heart is in the right place, but your MIND has to be in it as well. I don't like being overweight... No one does, but in order to be successful, you need to be 110% committed to a total lifestyle change. Which apparently in my past attempts, was very clear that wasn't the case. A couple weeks ago I got on the scale and saw a number I never thought I'd see. My first thought was HOW did I let this happen? My second thought was "I need to make a change, and I need to make it NOW." Not next week, not Monday, not tomorrow... Right-effing-now.

I didn't cry, I didn't beat myself up, I didn't throw a fit. I simply knew I'd let my weight go, and that if I wanted to drop the weight it was going to take a serious commitment. A commitment I wasn't willing to make in the past.

I just turned 29 and have been overweight for the majority of my 20's, gaining the most weight over the past few years. I lost 30lbs in the first half of 2012 for my June wedding, then gained it back. I lost 35lbs in the first few months of 2013, then gained it back plus some. It's been a vicious cycle and I'm ready to stop. I have a plan, I have 3 mini-goals, and an overall goal. I know in my mind what I want, how to achieve it, and have been taking action.

I'm putting my health & wellness first. Getting fit is at the top of my to-do list. Take this journey with me, I hope I can inspire you too!

Work It Out

Changing your diet only gets you so far. Sure, you can eat a perfect diet and lose some weight, but in order to see SERIOUS results you had best lace up those tennis shoes and work the eff out. Walk, jog, run, stairs, elliptical... Pick your cardio of choice and pair that shit with weights. Cardio boosts your metabolism, weights add muscle, and muscle burns fat. It's quite simple, really. Working out not only fires up your weight loss, it also strengthens your heart, and is a fantastic stress reliever. Bad day at work? Hit the gym!

I aim for 15-20 minute of solid cardio, then 40-50 minutes of various weights. I tend to favor the treadmill at a wicked incline for my cardio sesh... 3.3 at a 6.5 incline does the trick. I alternate days for arms and shoulders/back with legs and abs, and I do 10-15 minutes of stretching to end my workouts. Right now, I'm doing the BeachBody Power90 series so I'm just going to the gym for the sauna and pool... But I'll be back to my regular work outs once the 90 days is up.

Working out may not be fun, but it's necessary!

I Just Want A Reese's...

A major part of this whole weight loss thing is learning what to eat, and how much you should be shoving in your mouth. It's a bitch to figure out, because everyone and their mother has an option on what you should eat, when you should eat it, and how much you should eat. Every new thing you read seems to contradict the last thing you read. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Let's start with my sinful favorites. I am a hardcore lover of Reese's PB Cups... Actually, anything and everything peanut butter. It's my favorite thing to stick in my face hole. On a spoon, with apples, in my oatmeal, on toast. I've tried PB2 {GROSS} and almond butter {Meh.} but neither one made me swoon. It's one of those things I'm not willing to give up. Coffee, energy drinks, phad thai, and teriyaki are on that list, too. If I were to cut that stuff out completely, there would come a day where I would gorge myself on piles of phad thai, half a jar of peanut butter, and a case of Monster. That my friends is not a good idea. Just because you're losing weight and getting fit doesn't mean you need to totally deprive yourself of the yummy things you love. Moderation people... Moderation.

I've adapted my own diet using the basics of clean eating. I use lots of lean proteins, salt-free spices, tons of vegetables, and enough fruit to kill an elephant. I eat carbs because your body needs them- But they should always be the smallest part of your meal. I love almond milk, greek yogurt, eggs, and cheese... Don't try to come between me and my cheese. I'll cut you.

I try to "shop the perimeter" when I go to the grocery store. That's where the fresh foods are- Produce, meats, seafood, dairy... The usual suspects. Obviously there is shit you need that is in the middle, but just be mindful of what your grabbing. Boxed and canned, processed foods have a shitstorm of preservatives and sodium, and that crap isn't good for you. F'real, yo.

Small changes in your diet can make a huge difference not only on the scale, but also how you FEEL. Feed your body good food, and it will function better!

Skinny Wife Undercover

Welcome! This will be my 3rd attempt at keeping a blog. I dabbled in the beauty blog world then I dabbled in the "family" style blog... I wasn't really inspired to keep up with either of them. I am, however, inspired to inspire others during my weight loss journey. I started January 2nd and I am currently 20lbs down, thanks to an 8 week long Biggest Loser-style challenge I did with some friends... And won, by the way! I am currently doing the BeachBody Power90 series and I'm not gonna lie- It's TOUGH! I'm interested to see how my body changes because I'm becoming aware of muscles I had NO.FREAKING.IDEA even existed. So join me as I shed the pounds and find the skinny wife that's currently on an undercover mission. It's going to be one hell of a ride!
